Events, Launches, and Community Reading

Our shop floor becomes a venue. Authors read aloud. Book clubs argue passionately. Kids sit cross-legged for storytime. This is what we built the space for.

Author Talks & Signings

Monthly, usually Saturday afternoons

Irish authors, local voices, and the occasional international name. We host the talk, handle the book sales, and make sure everyone gets their copy signed. Authors love the atmosphere here.

Book Clubs

Three active clubs, open to new members

Crime fiction club meets first Tuesday. General fiction on the third Thursday. A new Irish-language reading group starts this autumn. We provide the space, the books, and the tea.

Saturday Storytime

Every Saturday, 11am–11:45am

For ages 3–7. A different theme each week. Parents grab a coffee, kids settle in. It's the best hour of the week for a lot of Gorey families.

School Reading Competitions

Termly, in partnership with local schools

We run reading challenges for primary classes. Kids get a checklist, a deadline, and a small reward at the finish line. Teachers tell us it works.

Local authors: we'd love to hear from you about hosting a launch or signing. Get in touch.

Why Readers and Schools Trust Us

We've been here long enough to know what people want. Not everything. But we get the important things right.

"I rang on a Wednesday needing thirty copies of a Leaving Cert text for the following Monday. They had them ordered and on my desk by Friday lunchtime. Our school hasn't looked back."

Geri Brides

English Teacher, Gorey Community School

"My grandchildren live in Dublin but when they visit, the first stop is the bookshop. The children's section is properly thought out. Not just the obvious titles."

Floriane Bean

Regular Customer, Gorey

"I asked about a signed edition of a new Irish novel and they had it put aside for me within the week. That kind of service is rare now."

Jp Yambao

Collector & Reader, Enniscorthy

"I run a small B&B and wanted a stack of local-interest books for the guest lounge. They put together a selection of Wexford histories and photo books. Guests comment on them all the time."

Vio Warde

B&B Owner, Courtown

"The Saturday storytime is genuinely lovely. My four-year-old asks about it all week. And the staff remember her name. That matters."

Radoslaw Pijewska

Parent, Gorey

"Preordered the new Tana French three months early. Got a text when it arrived. Collected it before it hit the shelves anywhere else in town."

About Our Bookstore

A1 Gorey Prose sits on the R725 in Gorey, a short drive from the coast and a shorter walk from the town centre. We opened because Gorey deserved a proper bookshop. One where you can spend an hour browsing and leave with something you didn't know you wanted.

Our shelves lean Irish. Local authors, Wexford history, Irish-language children's books, and the best fiction coming out of this country. We also stock everything else a good bookshop should: cookbooks that earn their shelf space, crime novels you'll read in two sittings, and picture books that survive a hundred bedtime readings.

We're independent. That means we answer to readers, not algorithms. If a book matters to this community, we stock it. If you need something we don't have, we'll order it. Simple as that.
